Smooth Agile DMT X2 Elliptical Trainer
Elliptical trainers continue to grow in popularity, this is underlyed by the amount of people who visit a health club and try either an elliptical machine or a treadmill. Invariably the elliptical wins out for both comfort and the full body workout.
If you are a runner already, or training for a running event, the jarring motion of the treadmill may not have the same effect on you. However, if you are new to exercise are already overweight, or a senior citizen, protection of your joints is important.
Health clubs tend to prefer elliptical trainers over treadmills too. Less injury or joint pain means that club members come back more often, and get more utilization from the club. Members who use the club are less likely to drop their memberships. From a maintenance standpoint, elliptical machines tend to be more durable than treadmills, because they have fewer moving parts, and these parts take less of a beating. Finally, elliptical machines tend to fit in less space.
These same trends seen in health clubs are also being seen in the purchase of home fitness equipment. The Elliptical Trainer is one in a line of Agile Dynamic Motion Trainer products from Smooth Fitness. As the company’s name implies, the Smooth elliptical trainer is just that. It features an electromagnetic brake mechanism for contact-free resistance, and foot pedals that pivot, enabling your entire foot to remain firmly on the pedal throughout the pedal’s entire range of motion.
Most trainers are limited to an oval or elliptical training motion only. The Agile Dynamic Motion Trainer in the X2’s name is Smooth Fitness’s answer to this limitation. Agile DMT means that, in addition to being able to adjust only the resistance, the X2 can also vary the path of motion that its foot pedals, and therefore your feet, go through. This enables you to vary your workout in ways not possible before, therefore preventing your muscles from repeating the same motion over and over. The Smooth Agile Elliptical Trainer also provides a workout for the upper body through the ski pole-like arms that attach to the foot pedal mechanism.
The X2 is supported by a two year service warranty, and can be found for just under $2,400.
